Meet Our Team
Our Founders
Karen and Travis both grew up in Presbyterian Church (USA) congregations — Karen in California and Travis in South Carolina — and met while attending Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey. Since marrying in 2003, they have shared a deep commitment to the interconnection of mind, body, and spirit and the importance of a holistic approach to health and wholeness.
Their journey began in their teenage years through a shared interest in the physical, communal, and ecological impact of our food choices. This early focus led them to explore the broader, interdependent dimensions of health — spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental — as integral to one’s relationship with self, community, and God.
Together, Karen and Travis seek to embody and promote holistic, abundant life for the good of all creation. They are available to consult with theological institutions, churches, denominational groups, and other communities interested in cultivating practices that care for people and the planet.

Co-founder/Executive Director
Karen earned her B.A. in Exercise Physiology from UC Berkeley and began her career as an exercise physiologist. Recognizing the need for a spiritual dimension in supporting health, she pursued an M.Div. at Princeton Theological Seminary (2004), was ordained in the PCUSA (2005), and received a D.Min. from Columbia Theological Seminary (2017). She has directed HSHC for the past thirteen years, integrating her experience in health ministry, spiritual formation, and sustainable living practices. Karen enjoys plant-based cooking, organic gardening, and outdoor activities such as running, hiking, and biking, and moments of being still.

Co-founder/Secretary
Travis earned his M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary (2004), initially intending to pursue an academic career. However, he discovered a calling to counseling through his seminary experiences. He is an ordained PC(USA) minister who has served multiple congregations, in both his home state of South Carolina and Pennsylvania, and has also worked as a hospital chaplain. He completed a Th.D. in Pastoral Counseling at Columbia Theological Seminary in 2022 and is a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in Georgia and Pennsylvania. Travis currently serves as the Henry J. Copeland Interfaith Chaplain and Director of Religious and Spiritual Life at The College of Wooster. He is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys plant-based cooking and baking, studying languages, playing the double bass, and reading.
